3rd Grade Overview

August 23 - 29

F&F: On Monday, we will continue our first unit. We will be starting with “Sequence of Events”. Students will have a copy of their visual tool, process questions, pattern statement, and vocabulary for the unit in their F&F pocket of their THINK binder. Our “Skills and Vocabulary” tests will take place on Friday, September 5th. The Performance Test will take place on Monday, September 8th.


Math: We will continue Unit 1 of math. In the first module of this unit we will be looking at different addition strategies. Our test over Unit 1 is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd. 


Spelling: Students will have their first spelling test over Unit 2 on Friday, August 29th. Their spelling words can be found in the “Spelling” pocket of their THINK binder or in their Agenda for this week. 


Language: We are continuing learning about “Nouns”. Students will have a formative assessment (quiz) on Tuesday, September 2nd.


Writing (Taught by Mrs. Adams): In writing, students will be reading different books by Eloise Greenfield. We will be talking about narratives and writing about where we came from. 


Science (Taught by Ms. Richardson): Students will continue their first unit over States of Matter. The first test is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24th.


Social Studies (Mrs. McBryar/Mrs. Mercer): Students will continue their first unit, Oceans and Continents. The test date on this unit is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th.


NOTES: 

  • It can be cold in our classrooms. Please make sure that your child has an appropriate sweater, sweatshirt (BBS logo on the front) to wear in the classroom. ***Please make sure to label your child’s jacket/sweater/sweatshirt. 

  • Due to rotations (Science, Social Studies, and Writing) going up to 3:00, we ask that they not leave earlier than that time. Of course, we understand if there are Dr. appointments.

  • Don’t forget to send in a snack and water bottle each day. Water bottles need to be screw on tops labeled with their name.

  • Please do not take things out of their binder pockets or “return” side without returning them. We will be using those items in class on a daily basis. This also includes interactive notebooks.
