Third Grade Overview

 September 21-25


F&F: We will continue our first unit with “Sequence of Events”. Students brought home a copy of their visual tool, process questions, pattern statement, and vocabulary for the unit. Our “Skills and Vocabulary” tests will take place on Tuesday, September 22nd. The Performance Test will take place on Wednesday, September 23rd.


Math: We are continuing Unit 1 of math. In this unit students will begin working on strategies that will aid them in math all throughout the year. Students will continue working on different addition and subtraction strategies that aid in efficiency and accuracy. They will also be balancing equations on different sides of an equal sign and writing equations to represent one-step story problems. Our test over Unit 1 is scheduled for Monday, September 28th. 


Spelling: Students will have their first spelling test over Unit 5 on Friday, September 25th. Their spelling words can be found in the “Spelling” pocket of their THINK binder or in their Agenda for this week. 


ELA (Mrs. Adams): Students will continue working on nouns while also continuing to work on the writing process. The nouns quiz will be on Wednesday, September 30th. 


Science (Ms. Richardson): Students will begin their second unit on Planets. There is no test for the Planet Unit, instead more details will come about the project! The WonderWorks field trip will be on Friday, November 13th. The forms need to be turned back into your homeroom teacher by Wednesday, October 7th. 


Social Studies (Mrs. Mercer): Pirate Day is on Tuesday, September 22nd! Students may dress up in their best pirate gear, or wear a school uniform! Students will start their second unit on Continents and Oceans. The test date on this unit is Monday, November 2nd.


Our required First Quarter Parent Teacher Conferences will take place between October 5th and October 23rd. You will be receiving an email from your child’s teacher with more information!


NOTES: 

  • It can be cold in our classrooms. Please make sure that your child has an appropriate sweater, sweatshirt (BBS logo on the front) to wear in the classroom. ***Please make sure to label your child’s jacket/sweater/sweatshirt. 

  • Due to rotations (Science, Social Studies, and Writing) going up to 3:00, we ask that they not leave earlier than that time. Of course, we understand if there are Dr. appointments.

  • Don’t forget to send in a snack and water bottle each day. Water bottles need to be screw on tops labeled with their name.

  • Please do not take things out of their binder pockets or “return” side without returning them. We will be using those items in class on a daily basis. This also includes interactive notebooks.
