3rd Grade Overview
October 4 - 10
F&F: We are continuing our Summarization unit. This is a new unit for our students and is very involved as writing is concerned. In this unit we are taking thoughts/ideas and transitioning them into sentences, paragraphs, and complete summaries. The Skills and Vocabulary tests are scheduled for Wednesday, October 29th. The Performance Test is scheduled for Thursday, October 30th.
Math: We are currently working on our second module of Unit 2. The test date for Unit 2 is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th. With the addition of starting this unit, we will also begin working on our multiplication tables. We are continuing with our 2’s. Your students will have 5 minutes to complete the quiz. The 2’s quiz will take place on Friday, October 24th. We will practice in class, but it is imperative that you also study at home.
Spelling: Students will have their first spelling test over Unit 9 on Friday, October 17th. A new spelling sheet can be found in the “Spelling” pocket of their THINK binder or in their Agenda for this week.
Language: We are starting our unit on “Regular Plural Nouns”. Students will have a formative assessment (quiz) on Tuesday, October 7th.
Writing (Taught by Mrs. Adams): In writing, students will be editing their rough drafts. We will be focusing on sentence structure.
Science (Taught by Ms. Richardson): Students will continue their unit on Space. The test for this unit is currently scheduled for Friday, October 31st.
Social Studies (Mrs. Mercer): Students will continue their unit, Compasses and Map Details. The test date is scheduled for Friday, October 17th. “Pirate Day” is scheduled for Thursday, October 23rd. Information on that will be coming soon.
NOTES:
It can be cold in our classrooms. Please make sure that your child has an appropriate sweater, sweatshirt (BBS logo on the front) to wear in the classroom. ***Please make sure to label your child’s jacket/sweater/sweatshirt.
Due to rotations (Science, Social Studies, and Writing) going up to 3:00, we ask that they not leave earlier than that time. Of course, we understand if there are Dr. appointments.
Don’t forget to send in a snack and water bottle each day. Water bottles need to be screw on tops labeled with their name.
Please do not take things out of their binder pockets or “return” side without returning them. We will be using those items in class on a daily basis. This also includes interactive notebooks.
