2026 Tybee Day 1
Tybee Day 1 Recap
Here’s a quick recap of our first full day on Tybee! We’re happy to report that all students are behaving well and truly enjoying the experience—there should be some very tired kids tonight.
Our day began bright and early around 6:30 a.m., with students eager to explore the camp in daylight. Volleyball has been a huge hit with this group! During free time, students have also enjoyed gaga ball, basketball, tetherball, and four square.
The first class of the day was a squid dissection. Some students were fascinated and loved the hands-on learning, while others bravely powered through the experience! After lunch, we boarded buses for a saltwater marsh ecology class. Students fully embraced the adventure—getting quite muddy (as you’ll see in the pictures!)—and many successfully caught crabs.
Following the marsh, we headed to the beach for some free time in the North Atlantic. A few of our lacrosse players squeezed in some skill work, while others played football, baseball, or simply relaxed and enjoyed the sand and surf.
After returning to camp, students showered, had dinner, and are now preparing to wrap up the day with a dusk beach walk. During this activity, they’ll learn about topics like bioluminescence and even why pirates wore eye patches—should be a fun and memorable way to end the day!
We appreciate your patience with updates. Internet access at camp is extremely limited (on a good day) and is currently nonexistent. I’m currently borrowing Wi-Fi from the Tybee library about half a mile away to share this update.
