2026 Tybee Day 2
Tybee Day 2 Recap
We are well into Day 2 of classes here at the Burton 4-H Center on Tybee Island, and things continue to go very well. The students were up between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. today, and after a full day yesterday, sleep came much more easily for everyone.
The day began with one of those activities students either love or loathe—shark dissections. There are lots of great photos from this activity on our Facebook page. Afterward, students returned to the beach for their “Surf Sleuth” class, where they learned how to use fish nets. Each group had a different catch, with shrimp, small fish, crabs, and cone jellyfish among the most common finds.
While we were on the beach, we were also treated to the sight of a pod of dolphins swimming by—a memorable experience for everyone.
Currently, students are participating in a class called “Coastal Critters,” where they are getting hands-on experience holding various animals, including turtles, alligators, snakes, and more.
Tonight, we will enjoy s’mores by the campfire, followed by a devotion before bedtime. We will be up early tomorrow and plan to depart at 7:30 a.m.
