Brainerd Baptist School Introducing MindPrint for Students.
At BBS, we believe that every child learns differently, and understanding how each student learns best allows us to teach with purpose, compassion, and impact. That’s why we’re excited to announce that our 3rd-grade students will participate in the MindPrint Learning Assessment on December 8th and 9th.
What Is MindPrint?
MindPrint is a research-based cognitive assessment that helps educators understand how students think and learn, not just what they know. While traditional academic tests measure knowledge (like reading levels or math skills), MindPrint provides insight into each student’s learning processes, including:
Attention: How easily a child can focus and avoid distractions.
Working Memory: How well they can hold and use information while thinking.
Processing Speed: How quickly they can understand and respond.
Reasoning and Problem Solving: How they approach challenges and new ideas.
Executive Functioning and Visual Processing: How they plan, organize, and make sense of information.
This information provides a comprehensive view of each child’s cognitive strengths and areas for growth, allowing teachers to tailor instruction, provide meaningful support, and help students build confidence in their learning.
Why We’re Excited About This
Last spring, while attending the NAIS conference, two of our teachers had the opportunity to learn more about MindPrint, and we were immediately impressed. After connecting with their administrative team and exploring how other schools (including some in our area) use this data, we knew it would be an incredible fit for our students and teachers. This year, BBS will begin administering MindPrint to all 3rd graders. The results will not only help this year’s teachers better understand their students, but will also benefit future teachers as these students move into 4th and 5th grades.
By the time a student enters the next grade, their teachers will have access to both academic progress and cognitive insights, a powerful combination that supports curriculum planning, differentiation, and communication with families.
In short, MindPrint helps us teach smarter, not harder.
What Parents Can Expect
After your child completes the assessment, you’ll receive a personalized report that outlines their learning profile. This report highlights cognitive strengths and provides practical strategies for learning both at school and at home. For example, if a student has strong visual memory but a slower processing speed, their teacher might provide visual aids or adjust the pacing of lessons to better match how they learn best.
It’s not a test that students can “study for,” and there’s no grade or score to worry about; it’s simply a tool to help us understand your child as a learner.
Looking Ahead
We’re proud to be offering this opportunity to our 3rd graders and their families. As we move forward, each new 3rd-grade class will participate in the MindPrint assessment, ensuring that this valuable data follows them through 5th grade. We can’t wait to see how these insights help our teachers personalize instruction, plan curriculum, and empower every student to reach their full potential.
Next Steps for Parents:
3rd-grade students will take the assessment December 8–9.
You’ll receive your child’s personalized MindPrint report soon after testing.
