George Stanley Service Award

History:

The Stanley Service Award was created in 2013 and awarded to Mr. George Stanley, the namesake of the award. Mr. George Stanley volunteered at Brainerd Baptist School for well over 20 years working in the cafeteria.  On Wednesdays, he would hand out ice cream coupled with hugs to all the students. On Fridays, he would volunteer again in the cafeteria giving the students French fries, or “Mr. Stanley’s famous fries.”  Over the years, students fell in love with Mr. Stanley’s gentle, personable spirit.  He was always quick to give a hug and ask students, teachers, and parents how they were doing in a genuine way.

Qualifications for winners:

Winners of the Stanley service award must be connected to the Brainerd Baptist School Community.  Ideal candidates could be parents, teachers, students, or even grandparents.  The award winner should exhibit a spirit of service in a way consistent with Christian beliefs. The Head of School, in conjunction with other faculty, staff or board members shall conduct the selection of the award winner.

Bea Arnold Reading Award

Bea Arnold spent countless hours volunteering at Brainerd Baptist School by reading books to many of the students.

Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Mrs. Arnold helped to prepare many BBS students for academic success knowing that the more words that are in a child’s language world, the more words they will learn and the stronger their skills will be.

This award is given each year to a 5th grade student who has proven, in many ways, his/her love of reading.
