Third Grade Overview

March 16 - 22

Math: We will begin Unit 6. Unit 6 focuses on geometry. We will work on classifying different shapes and will dig into different types of quadrilaterals. We will also work on calculating perimeter and area and represent fractions as parts of a whole shape.

F&F: Students are continuing their unit on Setting. Setting works with helping students dig into a text and decipher how the setting affects the character’s actions and thoughts/feelings. This unit will act to somewhat “piggyback” off our last unit, Character. The Skills and Vocab test will take place on Thursday, March 21st. The Performance test will be the following day, March 22nd.

Language: We will wrap up our unit on coordinating conjunctions. The quiz will take place on Tuesday, March 19th.

Writing: We will be focusing on our “Student Treasures” book titled “Gifts From Our Hearts”. This is a narrative writing piece. The order forms for purchasing your child’s class book went home in last week’s Tuesday folder. Order forms are due back to Mrs. Adams on Wednesday, March 20th.

Spelling: The next spelling test will take place on Friday, March 22nd, over Unit 26.

Social Studies: Students will begin their unit on the branches of government and the Preamble. The test date for this unit is Friday, March 22nd.

Science: Students will continue their units on Simple Machines. The infamous third grade “Egg Drop” will take place on Thursday, March 21st. The test day for this unit is forthcoming and will take place after Spring Break.

Bible: Memory Test is Tuesday, March 19. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God.”

2 Corinthians 5:21

NOTES:

  • It can be cold in our classrooms. Please make sure that your child has an appropriate sweater or sweatshirt (BBS logo on the front) to wear in the classroom. ***Please make sure to label your child’s jacket/sweater/sweatshirt.

  • We ask that if you are taking a planned trip, that you let us know two weeks in advance so that we can get their work together.

  • Due to rotations (Science, Social Studies, and Writing) going up to 3:00, and then working to finish our math lessons, we ask that they not leave earlier than that time. Of course, we understand if there are Dr. appointments.

  • Don’t forget to send in a snack and water bottle each day. Water bottles need to be screw on tops labeled with their name.

  • Please do not take things out of their binder pockets or “return” side without returning them. We will be using those items in class on a daily basis. This also includes interactive notebooks.
