Dr. Owens was born and raised near Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2000 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Management Information Systems.
He met his wife, Kelli, while both attending the University of Georgia, in Athens, GA. They married in 2002, as Kelli was finishing her clinical rotations in Pharmacy and Dr. Owens began Dental School. In 2006, Dr. Owens graduated Dental School at the Medical College of Georgia. They moved to Chattanooga, TN in 2007 when Dr. Owens purchased a dental practice in Trenton, GA.
He maintained two dental practices until he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2014. Due to the invasive and subsequent side effects from the year long treatments, Dr. Owens is no longer able to practice clinical dentistry. He and Kelli have been members at Brainerd Baptist Church since 2009, where they have served various roles in teaching, children’s ministry, and the deacon body. Dr. Owens served on the Brainerd Baptist School Board of Trustees for most of 2016 until he accepted the role of Bible teacher / Chaplain. He has transitioned into the role of PE teacher/Athletic Director and is in his 2nd year of teaching at Brainerd Baptist School..
He is married to Kelli, and they have 3 amazing children; Katelyn, Grant, Griffin. Katelyn graduated from Brainerd Baptist School in 2016 and is now in middle school at Silverdale Baptist Academy. Grant and Griffin attend Brainerd Baptist School and are in 5th and 2nd grade, respectively.
Dr. Owens is so thankful for God’s mercy and grace on his life and for this opportunity to be a part of the Bobcat family. He loves his family and spending time with them and their new lab/border collie addition, Mr. Tumnus. He also enjoys sports, coaching his kids, nutrition and fitness, and keeping up with trends in Dentistry as he continues to participate in yearly continuing education. His favorite books of the Bible are Daniel, Philippians, and Ephesians. One of his favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
