Each year, our PSO raises thousands of dollars to help fund improvements at our school. Over the years, the PSO has funded hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of capital improvements. Entire grade levels have been remodeled. These improvements typically include new paint, windows, carpet (when necessary)lights ceilings, and white boards.
Some examples of a few projects that the PSO funded for the summer of 2011 are:
1. New Mulch in the playground - As crazy as it may sound, we have to spend a LOT of money each year on mulch! I get asked, "Why don't you get the free mulch from the city?" We are required by the state to have mulch at certain depths in our playground. Because children play in this area, we also have to use a certain type of mulch that is approved and meets certain requirements. The mulch on our playground is called "playground chips" and has been run through large magnets to make sure it is free from metals and glass.
2. New lights, paint - Our 4th and 5th grade hall and classrooms got a nice face lift this summer. We switched to a newer style light that is brighter and also 22% more efficient.
3. We had a significant upgrade to the infrastructure of our wired network system (LAN).
4. A 2nd & 3rd grade classes got new chairs. They now have the same style desk and chair that is used by our 2nd-3rd grades.
5. Our kindergarten office got new office furniture and chairs. Since this area is most often a "first impression" area, we are working hard to make sure that it looks nice!
6. Our gym floor was refinished this summer. It looks excellent and Coach Ledbetter is very excited about it! Stop by and check it out!
