One Place. Unlimited Possibilities

Lego Robotics Club

We are pleased to announce that Brainerd Baptist School will be having a competitive team in the First Lego Robotics League this year for the fifth year!  The team will be coached by Mrs. Brooke Marsh and Mrs. Annette Randolph.

STUDENT TEAM MEMBERS:

We are looking for team members (boys AND girls) between the ages of 9 and 14 who are willing to participate at least an hour each week to prepare for the regional Lego Robotics Competition (which will most likely be held in December).  Students must be willing to work as a team, respect each other, work hard, and have fun.  Not all work involves programming and building – please consider joining if you are creative, organized, and/or dramatic because the competition includes a presentation of research on the year’s topic.  The maximum number allowed for the team is 10 students.  We will only have ONE team this year so get your forms in early.  Last year’s team members will have first priority.

VOLUNTEERS, MENTORS AND PARENTS:

We are looking for volunteer parents, grandparents, friends, or older siblings who would be willing to learn a little about Lego Robotics and help our team learn how to build the robots, program the robots, and prepare for the presentation of our research.  You don’t have to be an expert (although experts are certainly welcome) – you just have to be ready to learn and willing to have fun! We need for the parents to be willing to help us transport students to competitions, allow students to stay late if needed to work on the robot, and to be willing to encourage and help our team as you are able.

MEETING TIMES:

We will begin to meet on Wednesdays from 3:15 until 4:00 starting on September 8, 2010. We will most likely have to extend our meetings or add meeting times as the competition approaches.  The competition is in early December (usually at TN Tech).  The local event is usually scheduled for late November. Our first meeting date will be Wednesday, September 8 in the science lab on the 2nd floor.

FINANCES:

We need each student to contribute $100 to help cover our costs. We will also have future needs for team t-shirts, poster board, etc.  If your business would like to help sponsor our team, we will include your business logo on our t-shirts and other materials.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form and return to Mrs. Brooke Marsh. (For more information, please go to http://www.firstlegoleague.org/default.aspx?pid=70 or e-mail me at bmarsh@brainerdbaptist.org or Annette at arandolph@brainerdbaptist.org.
