3rd Grade Overview
BIBLE: Psalm 23:5 - "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." The verse test will be on Psalm 23:4. The new verse date is Friday, March 14, 2014.
MATH: We will be learning and reviewing the following skills: acting out, drawing pictures, and writing number sentences for division story problems, multiplying a multiple of 10, 100, or 1,000 by a single-digit number, and identifying transformations.
** Continue reviewing 7, 10, 5, 3 and 4 multiplication tables even as they learn their 4’s. Some students still struggle with tables they learned earlier in the year. Remember these are ALL relatively new to your child; they can only become masters of the concept with due practice.
LANGUAGE: We will continue to learn about Pronouns in Chapter 22. There will be a test over this chapter on March 5th.
SPELLING: We will be going over Unit 26. There will be a test over these words on Thursday, March 6. You may go onto www.spellingcity.com/jkrobinson for online practice games.
READING: We will begin our new unit as follows:
Mrs. Cole: Plot
Ms. Neal: Character
Ms. Robinson: Cause and Effect
SCIENCE: We will continue learning about matter in Chapter 11 of our science books. Students will have NEW vocabulary and study guides in their homework binders which were completed in class. This unit will focus on physical and chemical changes with more classroom experiments. I strongly urge you to review vocab and study guides with them a little every night so they will be more fully prepared for the test. These are technical terms that take a little time to memorize.
MUSIC: Grandparents’ Day is coming soon! Students should plan to wear "Sunday church" clothing to school on that day.
● Please be aware of the new weekly Tic-Tac-Toe homework assignments, due every Friday. These will count as a graded assignment.
● Last semester we counted off one point for capitalization and punctuation errors. As we now begin the second semester, we will be counting off TWO points for such errors, as these are skills students have been learning since first grade. In addition, two points will be deducted for misspelled words we have given them (such as what is written on the board for that assignment or in a book they are using).
2014-2015 Student Council: Students in 3rd and 4th grade received information for the 2014-2015 Student Council. Please contact Mrs. Haren or Mrs. Rhonda if you have any questions.
