Fourth Grade Overview

September 25 - 29

BIBLE: Continue working on memorizing the following scripture in preparation for our next verse test on Monday, October 2, 2017.  We are going to reinforce Ephesians 3:17 from our first verse test so this verse test will cover Ephesians 3:17-18 (ESV).  17“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,”

Language Arts:

READING: Students will begin Unit 2: Sequence of Events. Study materials and a daily Reading Assignment Sheet will be placed in their binders in the F&F section. Please use these items to study. *This is the first unit with reading homework. Please be sure your child completes this each night. Otherwise he/she will find themselves greatly behind.

Testing is scheduled for after Fall Break on October 12-13.

In addition, I have assigned a book report which will count as a test grade. They have been working on it in class a few days (writing, peer review, corrections, etc.). This week, they will need to finish it (if necessary) and get it proofed at home. Spelling and grammar will count on this assignment. The book report is due Thursday, September 28.

SPELLING: Spelling List 3 will be distributed to students this week. You will find the list and Activity Sheet 3 in the Spelling section of their binders. Please keep items in their binder when not working on them. The Activity Sheet assignment is due on Wednesday, September 27. Due to our field trip on September 29, the Spelling test will be on THURSDAY, September 28.

***Spelling City username and password is written on the FRONT PAGE OF STUDENT AGENDAS for year-round reference.***

ENGLISH: This week we will continue our unit covering nouns. Students are learning to distinguish between common and proper nouns and learning about possessive nouns. They will also be applying rules for spelling plural nouns. We will incorporate these skills and concepts in our writing during Writer’s Workshop throughout this unit.

Applied Sciences:

MATH:  The students have done well on our addition review and just need a little brushing up on their borrowing skills for subtraction.  We will have a test over this chapter sometime before Fall Break.  Mrs. Cole’s student teacher will be teaching for 3 days next week, so we will have a more definitive date for our test after she is done.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We will review Chapter 9. A study sheet is in their binders. The test over the Revolutionary War is Wednesday, September 27. The “VIP of Revolutionary War Project” is due September 26.  Students may present their project early if they choose.
