ACADEMICS

OUR SPIRITUAL APPROACH

Brainerd Baptist School is a non-denominational Christian school. We are unapologetically Christian in everything we do. We are very intentional in developing a strong Biblical worldview with our students. We believe that this can be done in a way that makes all families comfortable being a part of our school.

Our student body consists of diverse families representing virtually every denomination. We are missional in our approach and strongly believe that mom and dad are the most important spiritual influences in a child’s life. Our primary goal is not only to educate your child in academic matters, but also to meet their needs spiritually and emotionally. Every day our teachers lead our students in devotion and prayer time. In addition to this, students attend chapel each week and also attend Bible classes twice a week.

K3, K4, K5

Originally starting in 1953, before kindergarten was available in the public school system, the Brainerd Baptist program has a rich history! the BBS programs are well known for their quality and dedication to creating an atmosphere that promotes learning. Because of our success, our program has been replicated at other schools in the area.

The K3 program has three programs from which to choose: Tuesday-Thursday; Monday-Wednesday-Friday; and Monday – Friday. The K4 program has two programs from which to choose: Monday-Wednesday-Friday and Monday-Friday. Both K3 and K4 programs are half-day programs that begin at 8:15 and end at 12:30 each day. The K5 program is Monday-Friday and also begins at 8:15 and dismisses at 2:30 daily.

OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH TO KINDERGARTEN

All kindergarten programs at Brainerd Baptist School use a center-based approach to teaching. Each grade has a different curriculum that is age-appropriate. A brief description of each is offered below.

K3 – Our K3 is a literature-based curriculum where your child will be immersed in the world of books that will be enhanced with hands on activities throughout the day. The students will use creative play, math manipulatives, building blocks, art, retelling of stories and a variety of other hands on activities. Painting, coloring, cutting, and interactive play are vital parts of each day. Our day-to-day activities will develop fine motor skills and gross motor skills and most importantly a love of reading. They will go to Music, Spanish, Bible, Library, and Creative Movement classes on a weekly basis. Children will also be using iPads daily in class as well

K4 – Our K4 uses the well-known curriculum of the Letter People. In this curriculum, the students study a different letter each week. As with the K3 program, their days are filled with manipulative rich centers. The K4 students also begin using Saxon Math and go to Art, Physical Education, Technology, Music, Library and Spanish.

K5 – The K5 program is a traditional kindergarten program. The students still work in centers, but they are longer as they prepare for 1st grade. The curriculum is Saxon Math and Saxon Phonics at the 1st grade level. The students also go to the same fine art classes that the K4 students do. In addition, the K5 students use a MacBook Air in technology.
Elementary

The Brainerd Baptist School Elementary program is second to none in Chattanooga. Our school works hard to prepare our students to succeed at the best middle/high schools in Chattanooga.

There are two main areas that set Brainerd Baptist School apart from many other schools in Chattanooga and they are discussed below.

OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH TO ELEMENTARY

Brainerd Baptist School prides itself in being a top academic school in the city. Our successes in this area are very impressive. Each year we celebrate accomplishments of our graduates that encompass a wide array of academic achievements. Recent accomplishments include: valedictorians, salutatorians, Honor Society induction, National Merit finalist, student government officers, all-state honors, and state champions. The curriculum and program that is in place helps ensure that our students are well rounded.

The accelerated approach that is offered at Brainerd Baptist School prepares our students not only to be accepted at the best schools in Chattanooga, but to excel at those schools once they get there. We work very closely with several middle/high schools to ensure that our students are prepared for the next step in their academic careers.

BECOMING A BOBCAT

The admission process is designed to be very simple and straightforward. You may request an admission packet by calling the school office or by clicking the “request a packet” link on our site. Once you have reviewed this information, the next step is to tour the school. Tours can be scheduled by calling Robin Morris at 423-622-3873. Once you have toured the school, you may submit the application.

For 1st-5th grade applicants, we request that applying students spend a day visiting Brainerd Baptist School. Students are asked to be at the school around 8:15 and be picked up around 2:30. The visit gives the student a chance to learn more about Brainerd Baptist School and also meet prospective teachers and classmates. We typically will screen your child sometime during their day while they are visiting with us. The screening process for the 1-5th grade applicants takes around 45 minutes to an hour.

Once the visit and screening are completed, a decision is made in regards to enrollment. Acceptance packets are typically mailed the same week of the visit.

Brainerd Baptist School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid awards, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
