First Grade Overview

September, 16th 2014

BIBLE:  Proverbs 15:1 – “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”  The oral verse test will be on Friday, September 19, 2014.

LANGUAGE ARTS:
Phonics: Review of letters K, C (hard c), B, and spelling with k and c. Test Friday

Spelling:  Test over List 2:

a, an, at, tap, lot, nap, tan, zip, lap, pit

Sentences: 1. Nap on it.    2. Zip a top.

Foundations and Frameworks: The next several days we are focusing on the Genre- Tall Tales. We will read Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan, Dona Flor, Clementine Sweet, Swamp Angel, Whoosh Went the Wind, and New York’s Bravest. We will study but not be tested on the vocabulary words enormous, clenched, whoosh, and commotion.

MATH:  This week in marvelous math we will work on addition facts/adding 0, pattern blocks, counting by 10’s, subtraction facts

(minus 1), and identifying identical designs.
Assessment: Test Friday.

Assessments cover the information on worksheets your child has brought home for homework from the previous week.

Science and Social Studies:  September will be all about Asia!

REMINDERS:

Students may bring extra money to lunch to purchase ice cream from our 5th grade on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Prices vary depending on what item is purchased 

Thursday, September 18th, is reward day for the gummy and/or ski bear. Your child must have the bear in hand to participate in receiving the Tikiz icee and/or civilian day.

Parent Seminar night is next Tuesday, September 23rd.

Box Tops turn-in date is Thursday, October 23rd.

Please submit Box Tops to your teacher to earn money for your child’s classroom.
