First Grade Overview

BIBLE:  John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  The verse test will be “fill in the blanks.”

The sample verse test for John 3:16 is in your child’s Tuesday folder.  The verse tests will be “fill in the blanks” from now on.

LANGUAGE ARTS: 
Phonics: This week we will be covering Digraph –ea part 1 and part 2.

Spelling: List 15

1. My sister can subtract numbers well.

2. She has a good grade in math.

3. She can spell well too.

4. Last summer she was in the spelling bee.

Foundations and Frameworks:  We will be testing on our units this Thursday and Friday the 22nd and 23rd. Pattern Statement, Process Questions and Vocabulary went home in Tuesday folders for each particular unit.

Dahlke: Character        Payne: Story Structure          Williams: Predicting and Justifying

MATH:  This week in marvelous math we will work on adding 9, ordered pairs and identifying 1/2, 1/3, and 1/6.

Assessment: No assessments this week, assessments will be on Thursday, January 29th.

Assessments will cover the homework/materials sent home the week before.

Science and Social Studies:  January will be all about The Arctic and Antarctica.

Snuggle Up With a Good Book PJ Party: January 30th

All children will wear PJ’s, and they may bring a pillow, blanket, flashlight, and a bag of books to read in class.  Please be sure and label all books with your child’s name.  This will be a fun day to read and take AR tests.

Please send a healthy snack and a bottle of water with your child.
