First Grade Overview

September 1st, 2015

BIBLE:  Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Oral verse test will be on Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

Phonics: Review of letters I (short and long), L, A, and Z

Spelling: No test until after lesson 16 in mid September.

Foundations and Frameworks: We have completed our focus on the Genre- Fairy Tales. This week we will begin focusing on the Genre- Fables. The fables we will be focusing on are Tortoise and the Hare, The Crow and the Pitcher, The Dog and His Reflection, and The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse.

We will cover the following vocabulary: nonsense, perseverance, greed, and cozy.
MATH:  This week in marvelous math we will work on creating and reading a repeating pattern, addition facts of doubles with sums to 18, identifying lighter and heavier using a balance, and looking for a pattern to solve a problem.
Assessment: Test Friday. *Assessments cover the information on worksheets your child has brought home for homework.

SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES:  September will be all about Asia! 


Fifth grade students will sell ice cream in the cafeteria each day (except Wednesday) for 25 cents-75 cents. You may send ice cream money with your child in their lunch box.

Please submit BoxTops to your teacher to earn money for your child’s classroom.

September 7th- NO SCHOOL for Labor Day holiday.

September 11th Aquarium Field Trip: wear a navy uniform shirt with uniform shorts/skirt.

We will load the bus at 9:15 to leave for the Aquarium. Students will ride the coach bus and parents will meet us at the IMAX lobby at 10:30. Students may leave with their parents from the field trip.

September 17th Open House at 6:30

September 24th – Fall pictures-wear Sunday dress and can bring change of clothes/tennis shoes

October 2nd – BBS Spirit Day- students may wear any BBS t-shirt with approved civilian attire shorts/skirts.
